Rev. Debra will lead a discussion using Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. It is a powerful, true story about the potential for love to transform us, and a clarion call to transform systemic injustice.

The discussion will encourage a deeper conversation concerning the issues of race and justice that confront us today. Through prayer, an honest wrestling with these issues, the voices of people of color, and by
means of small group exploration, we will open ourselves to God’s transformative power as we seek to heal the wounded heart of humanity.

Currently, the movie based on the book is available for free streaming during the month of June. Please, if you are able, watch it before the first class. You can stream it on YouTube, iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play. The book is available through Amazon and other book
vendors; however, it and similar titles are in demand right now. It is available on Kindle and Audible as well. To assist you, we will send out chapter summaries each week to those who register.

Bryan Stevenson is the founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, a human rights organization in Montgomery, Alabama. Under his leadership, EJI has won major legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill, and aiding children prosecuted as adults.
