Unity Center of Cedar Rapids ~~ Peace Pole Rededication

September 21, 2025 (International Day of Peace)

A Peace Pole is an internationally-recognized symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, standing vigil in silent prayer for peace on earth. Each Peace Pole bears the message May Peace Prevail on Earth in different languages on each of its four or six sides. There are estimated over 250,000 Peace Poles in every country in the world dedicated as monuments to peace.

I invite you to select a stone or if you already have one, to hold it in your hands throughout this ceremony.

This pole was originally installed in 2001 and provided a space for people to reflect on and pray for peace following 9-11.

Two years ago, we revived this space to create an opportunity for people to individually reflect on their conscious commitment to Peace or to joyfully, prayerfully, or peacefully gather with others in community.

Our Peace garden is created with rocks, stone and cement, which reflects the simplicity of the idea that we are and can be grounded in Peace. While here we can take in the beauty of the trees, shrubs, grass and water that surrounds us

Today, we support the vision of a new path leading to the Peace Garden, reminding us that we are led to Peace, that we are on a Path to Peace, and that our own path to peace is to go within rather than wait to find it outside of ourselves or expect others to create peace for us.

Unity’s Fifth Principle reminds us that by living the Truth we know, through our thoughts, words, and actions, we are instruments of Peace right here, right now.

As we join together in this shared rededication experience, this international symbol of peace reminds us that we each have a role in inspiring, awakening and uplifting the human consciousness by holding our intention of peace and harmony in our heart and sending it out into the Universe.

Let’s take a moment in the silence to find our own peace in our hearts and when you sense it, move it out beyond yourself and release it into the universe.

I invite each of you to place your stone in the rock garden, knowing that it will be seen or received by others who visit this space in the future.  May all who enter this sacred space find Peace and be reminded of our ability to be Peace and be a bringer of Peace in this world.

Please join in singing "Let There Be Peace on Earth".

Go Forth in Peace my Friends!
